Re: 2017-18 West Predictions
Flyers have made a few key additions and with the young talent from last year going to the finals and being a year older I think the flyers will be very strong.

Just wondering who the key additions have been this off season? Outside of Corp and Weston, or is it a case of you know but can't tell?flyers2011 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2017 9:56 pm Flyers have made a few key additions and with the young talent from last year going to the finals and being a year older I think the flyers will be very strong.

Most of the teams have announced their coaching staffs but many have yet to announce significant roster moves for the upcoming season. This is where an active transaction page would be useful.

Don't know how true this is, but someone told me the reason the GOJHL doesn't have an active transaction page is because teams don't want it for fear that it'll hurt numbers at their camps if players know they are full or close to full. Take it with a grain of salt.Undertaker wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2017 10:46 am Most of the teams have announced their coaching staffs but many have yet to announce significant roster moves for the upcoming season. Re: 2017-18 West Predictions
I've heard that before too.
That's one of the issues in the GOJHL. There's still the mentality that things can be run like they were 5, 10, even 15 years ago. There's also a group of owners/managers that like to hold their cards very close to their chest so that nobody knows what they're thinking or planning.
It also appears like there are some that don't want to let new and younger blood in, because they don't want to have to change their thinking or how they run their team.

Re: 2017-18 West Predictions
Very nicely written, it might be interesting to see a study that compares all head and neck injuries in junior hockey when sporting full cages vs half shields. Cages will limit facial and dental injuries but wont totally eliminate them. The exhibition games I saw involved a lot more head contact especially involving stick to the head. It will be interesting to see if the introduction of cages to the GOJHL results in more leniency by the on ice officials with high sticks and contact when the head is targeted. Time will tell.

Re: 2017-18 West Predictions
I'll have a go at this. Always fun!
1. London - Good additions, will be in tough competition with Leamington.
2. Leamington - Will challenge for #1, an exciting team to see this season and beyond.
3. La Salle - All is good in Viper Country. Should be a tough place to travel to.
4. Chatham - Hoping the Maroons stick around the top of the flock. Will be tough to do.
5. Sarnia - On the bubble all season.
6. St. Thomas - No idea about the Stars this year, but I am sure they will make the post-season.
7. Strathroy - The Rockets will need all the rocket fuel they can muster to keep any sort of pace this year.
8. St. Marys - Umm... yeah, at least they are not Lambton... I mean, Komoka.
9. Komoka - New name, logo, barn, same results. I give it 3 years and then it's off to the next town.

I’ve always been a fan of junior hockey at all levels. It’s about the kids. Cheers.
