Re: Flyers offically welcome Ryan Shipley to team
Shipley added
The Western Conference-leading Leamington Flyers have added former OHL defenceman Ryan Shipley to the lineup.
The 19-year-old Shipley, who started the season at Laurier University, has joined the Flyers, who have yielded the fewest goals in the conference at 86 in 34 games.
“He has the potential to be a top four guy,” Flyers general manager Mike Sadler said of Shipley, who played seven games with Laurier.
The five-foot-10, 200-pound Shipley is a close friend of Flyers forward Tyler Duarte, who was acquired earlier this season from Strathroy.
An Ilderton native, Shipley is a former second-round pick by the Ottawa 67’s and played 116 OHL games over three seasons with Ottawa and the Niagara IceDogs.
“He’s had over 100 games of OHL experience and played at a high level,” Sadler said. “We don’t expect him to be anything else.”
Shipley finished last season with the London Nationals and had 19 points in 39 games along with 108 penalty minutes.
He will be in the lineup for Leamington’s next game Jan. 7 in LaSalle against the Vipers.
