Many scouts and agents have focused more on the Shoe than the other conferences in the league in past seasons. Personally I always thought the Midwest was the better conference.
Niagara Falls looks to be the team to beat in the Shoe this year. Maybe in all the GO.

Look at the big three they picked up.

Ben Evans, David D' Agostino and Mitchell Mendonca hows that for a starting line
Stowed Matt Maids from Thorold there leading scorer
Coming back are
Justin Kyle {top offence scorer last year}
Garrett Downie, Matt Baumann, Matthew Riva and fan favourite Patrick McCabe is back
Defence
Dillon Hill,Justin Schneider, Eric Becker and Branton Bastasin from the Sudbury Wolves
Goal
Zach Moore is back

Good job so far by the Canucks

Yes, the Canucks look good. A lot of good pick ups . Actually with the Corvairs and Falcons out I see the Canucks making
a joke of the remaining teams. Buffalo, Pelham, Welland and Fort Erie will remain in the bottom tier of this Conference.
Good to see McCabe back. Let's hope he's learned his lesson and that he plays the kind of hockey he's capable of.

What lesson was McCabe supposed to learn? He finished last season in JrA. Even if Inc gets their way with a league split London and Hamilton should be strong as well Hopefully the OHA hands down the ruling shortly so the guess work and rumours can cease. In other predictable news Inc pulled their U16 and U18 Christmas games from Hamilton and awarded them to Waterloo. They wouldn't have drawn much local interest if the host teams players were not welcome.

I surely hope there is a decision this week. It is has gone on long enough and I put that on the OHA. Could a definitive decision not have been made by them weeks ago? I guess because it is summer and too many don't put priority on hockey but on their vacations that this has lingered on. Training camps are starting and if they care about the kids playing this game at all, the league will make sure that the players know where their teams stand when they step on the ice.

Well, the OJHL released their schedule and Brantford is on it. I’m told that Brantford and the OJHL were officially turned down for this move twice by the OHA and once by the OHF, so who approved that?

That is the Milton team from last season in the OJHL that relocated to Brantford. Still supposed to be a Jr. B Brantford team as well. Tigerpaws guys have been talking about this for a while.

Yes I know that's Milton. I'd heard the relocation was shot down at both levels.

I would have been surprised if the OHF would have turned
it down. Part of the Brantford teams mandate was to provide Jr A hockey close enough to St Thomas London and Woodstock that players could still live at home. I don't know that Brantford can support both an A and B team so I was surprised that the B team was staying in Brantford.

RagingBS,

"You would have been surprised if the OHF turned it down "
Obviously you don't understand the meaning of encroachment.

Not trying to put you down only to point out each league has
to respect the footprint of the other leagues operating in Ont.

Since the leagues are not similarly classified I don't believe an encroachment argument exists. As I understand it the OHA footprint goes from Windsor to Kingston. Within that foot print they have one Jr A league under the CJHL, namely the OJHL. The GOJHL is the OHA only JrB league. Since Brantford is within the OHA footprint, the only way a JrA franchise can exist is in the OJHL. Don't get me wrong here, I am not a fan of the OJHL in any way, but believe there is enough talent west of Toronto to justify some JrA teams. Being within the OHA footprint leaves no other option for a JrA team. Past challenges have established that there will not be any additional JrA leagues in Canada (CJHL ruling) and the GOJHL will remain the OHA JrB league.

The only encroachment claim could be within Brantford for fan base purposes but both teams have the same owners.

No disrespect intended but Southwestern Ontario should have some JrA teams so players don't have to move away from home if they don't want to.

Trade Alert!
The Strathroy Rockets have acquired 19 year old forward Daniel Aspro who started last year with the Fort Erie Meteors before being traded to the St. Marys Lincolns late in the year. Daniel accumulated 12 points and 88 penalty minutes in 45 games in his first year in the GOJHL.
Welcome to the Rockets Daniel!

The Leamington Flyers are happy to announce that Ryan Gagnier has been signed for the 2018-2019 season.
Ryan spent last season playing for the Sun County Minor Midget team, he played in 31 games and managed to accumulate 19 goals and 11 assists. The 16-year-old forward was a 2018 3rd round selection of the Oshawa Generals. Listed at 5”11 and 165 lbs Gagnier already has a frame unlike most players his age. Ryan will continue to compete for a spot on the Generals roster and will join the Flyers if one is not available.
Flyers General Manager Justin Solcz says he is excited to have landed Gagnier and have him in the Flyers system.
“Ryan is an excellent 2-way forward who plays a 200-foot game,” said Solcz. “He is relentless on the forecheck and his ability to dig and recover pucks is unbelievable. If we are fortunate to have Ryan in a Flyer uniform it will be a quick step on his path to a higher level.”
He has the ability to contribute in both ends of the ice. Head Coach Cam Crowder believes Gagnier will be a versatile addition and is not weary of his age.
“Ryan is a player who can play in all situations. He has a rare combination of speed, size and compete,” said Crowder. “I am looking forward to see Ryan’s development as a Flyer and watch him grow off the ice as well.”
Ryan is the 3rd Generals prospect to sign with the Flyers this offseason joining 2017 7th Rounder Adam Jeffery & 2018 U-18 1st Rounder Ryan Polidori!

The Leamington Flyers are pleased to announce the addition of 16-year old forward Johnny Ulicny ahead of the 2018-2019 season.
The 5'7" forward comes to Leamington after playing his minor midget year with the Sun County Panthers. Last season in 33 games he tallied 13 goals and 11 assists. The Tecumseh native was a 13th round selection of the Windsor Spitfires in the *2018 OHL draft.
Head Coach Cam Crowder says he feels Ulicny’s game will translate well to the GOJHL.
"Johnny is fast and tenacious on and off the puck which is something we targeted from the beginning of the process," said Crowder. "Our fans are going to enjoy the passion Johnny brings every shift."
Prior to his season with Sun County, Ulicny was a member of the Chatham-Kent Cyclones for several seasons.
Flyers general manager Justin Solcz says he is excited to see him play this year on the big ice in Leamington.
"Johnny had a tremendous end to his season and has worked very hard this spring and summer to earn his spot on the team," said Solcz. " He has excellent speed and skill and his work ethic is second to none. We are looking forward see Johnny continue to develop as a Leamington Flyer."

That is consistent with the earlier press releases. Looks like HockeyTV will be carrying a few preseason games this season, basically covering teams in the Golden Horseshoe.

I am not so sure about Port did it wrong when you look at the costs of those extras. The Shoe does not draw that many fans anymore so it makes no sense to build an arena of that size for Junior B hockey. The Falls built a beautiful arena but it does not attract any more fans than they did before. In fact I would suggest the fan base has declined from the old Masterson days. The Falls does however have the benefit of the casino money which I have heard the Canucks benefit from ( offset Ice-costs).As Pelham does not have the casino money and is under pressure not add any more debt, I would assume that the Panthers will have to pay higher ice costs for their new digs. If they do not attract more fans they are going to have to raise revenue or reduce other costs ( ie don't pay their GOJHL fees  ). If you take the Falcons out of the picture, it may effect attendance even more as the Pelham/St Catharines rivalry is much more than a Pelham /London rivalry.

Its not that large? Even if you dont make something to the same size atleast make it crowd friendly? You cant even see the whole ice near the benches from the upper rows of the Port arena. No canteen? Its not that its not a nice facility they just could have done better. Id prefer to go watch a hockey game in Pelham now then I would Port. The new Pelham arena only costed 4 extra million. Sure thats a lot to most of us but when you are building a facility do it right.

The Panthers are one of several tennants, Pelham minor hockey and STA are the prime users of ice. It is a modern community center that will draw income from several sources not just GOJHL games. As for attendance it is plummeting across the OHA not just in the Niagara peninsula.

Flyers Sign Adam Groat -
The Leamington Flyers are pleased to announce the addition of 1999 born defenceman Adam Groat.
Adam hails from Wyandotte, Michigan where he played for Wyandotte Roosevelt High School from 2013-2017. He was the captain of the team in the 2016-2017 season and was an all-state honourable mention that year.
Groat comes to the Flyers after playing last season for the 18U Belle Tire AAA program where he won a state championship. In 31 games last season with Belle Tire he registered 2 goals and added 9 assists.
“Justin Solcz, the general manager reached out to me earlier this year saying I should go out to the American Camp, he and my coach at Belle Tire had a long connection. I went there and impressed some people and here we are,” Groat said.
Coming in at 6'3" and 185 lbs Groat will add size and a two-way force to the Leamington blue-line.
“I play a two-way defensive game, I like to get involved offensively but also shut it down in my own end. I'm a big body, I like to be physical and bang some bodies,” Groat said for what fans can expect from his game
Groat is the second Belle Tire graduate to sign with the Flyers this off-season joining forward Cameron Armstrong.
“ I love Leamington, I've been living here for a couple of weeks now, it's a great town, the teammates are great along with all the staff. I'm looking forward to the season starting and hopefully winning a Sutherland Cup with this team,” Groat added.

Flyers Sign Cameron Armstrong -
Joining the Flyers for the 2018-2019 season is Findlay, Ohio native Cameron Armstrong.
The 5'8" 150 lbs winger joins the Flyers from the Belle Tire 18U AAA program of the T1EHL where he won a state championship.
Armstrong describes himself as a hard worker, who likes to go into the corners and likes to hit. He said while being physical he hopes to be able to contribute on the offensive side of the game as well. Prior to his time at Belle Tire, he was an assistant captain for his Findlay High School team. He said wearing the “A” gave him leadership skills and he hopes that is something he can contribute to Leamington for the 2018-2019 season.
While with Belle Tire he played in 30 games & he managed 5 goals and 7 assists.
“My coach was in contact with Leamington and they contacted me. Winning the state championships was a great feeling, we battled hard through it and it taught me how to be a winner and hopefully it contributes here too.

There used to be a limit. 5 years ago teams were limited to 7 import spots. Those imports came in two forms, non Canadians and non locals. Teams had territorial rights to players. Canadian imports would use an import card there first year with the team. For instance, a player from London going to Waterloo would be an import for one year. Susquent seasons with the same team, the player would not need to use one of the seven import cards. A non Canadian ( US player) would need to use an import card for each season they played. Since the league changed to the current system that there is now more room for US players because there are no territorial restrictions throughout the league. It should open up opportunities for the best talent to play, but with very few Canadians needing an import card it leaves more available for US players thereby displacing Canadians that are often local. Better talent on the ice in theory, but less local players doesn't help at the gate.
