With the Showcase weekend coming up I thought I would put a plug in for U.S. College Hockey.
With a personal background that involves the NCAA, I'm continually shocked by how this option is often overlooked in the GOJHL by both players and scouts. Not that I have anything against the CHL, but the College Hockey Inc. stats show that only 20% of CHL players take advantage of their Education package to graduation, while close to 100% of NCAA players will end up with a degree. Of course in the end a good education will get you further than hockey will.
If considering the NCAA players and parents need to educate themselves on the pro's and con's, rules and regulations. A good place to start would be by attending the presentation hosted by the league this Saturday at the showcase.

One important aspect to understand is the Scholarship process. In spite of what you'll hear at the rinks, very few players will ever receive a "full ride".
Here's a good primer from the College Hockey Inc. site. Enjoy the Showcase, there will be plenty of scouts in attendance!
