Soccer....The Death Knell of Hockey in Canada?

Post by Beehive »

I have noticed an uneasy trend over the last decade or so regarding many parents signing up their kids to play soccer instead of hockey. It could very well be the high costs associated with playing hockey and indoor soccer venues are popping up all over the place but in my opinion this is sure to effect our future hockey development at the grass roots level in the near future. I know that enrollment in minor hockey is way down in the golden horseshoe area and with the quick growth of the game south of the border we may soon lose our identity as the top nation in the game. Sure we are still winning at the junior level on most occasions but the results have been less dominant. As a proud hockey fan I would hate to see this great game take a back seat to any other sport in this nation.
Time for a return of the Program of Excellence.
