Battle of the Blades

Post by Blades »

For those who want to see some hockey players on ice but not playing hockey, here's your chance to see them do something different. They are participating in a competition that raises funds for charity, pairing up with good looking women athletes in a sport that has won more medals for Canada in winter Olympics than any other sport. Yep, it's figure skating (20 for FK and 12 for hockey).
Information about it can be found at http://www.cbc.ca/battle/# where you can vote for your favourite pair.
The competition takes place on Sunday evenings on CBC and then the two couples with the lowest number of votes skate off against each other on Monday nights. Personally, I found it rather enjoyable watching former "tough" guys try to skate and lift people rather than fight them - names like Tie Domi and Bob Probert.
They have two resident judges and one judge who is "visiting". Last night the guest judge was CBC analyst Kelly Hrudy and next week it will be none other than Don Cherry!
Anyway, thought some might find it interesting.

Bottom two who had to "fight" it out tonight and perform again were
Marie France Dubreil and Stephan Richer vs. Kristina Lenko and Bob Probert.
Leaving by a score of 16.3 to 16.6 were .... Lenko and Probert.

I would think next week the hockey players might pick up more "skating" skills. Should be an interesting night.
