Owen Sound

Post by Slik27 »

Owen Sound had the potential to grab 6pts but gave all but 1 away over last 3 games. Leading Waterloo going deep in the 3rd a week ago, the lack of killer instinct got the best of them & they let the Siskins back in to steal the game. Friday in Listowel, 4 weak goals on 5 shots to start the game was to much to get back but at least they competed & controlled most of the game through the 2nd & 3rd period. Tonight was the same, with the lead & a 5 on 3 late in game, OS lost track of the penalty times allowing Waterloo to spring the player out of the box on a breakaway for a short-handed game tying goal. And once again the lack of killer instict allowed Waterloo to steal the extra point in OT. They are a young inexperienced team that is still improving. If they find that killer instict, teams wont get back in the games & OS will start putting points on the board.

Good to see that they are improving at least. Coach Gibbons has an unenviable job to keep the young team motivated night in and night out. I know Kyle McMillan has been hurt most of the season so far and he is one of their better offensive players. Hope he can return fully healthy soon as he will help their offense.

Nov 27th is rumured to be the return date for McMillan. The extra body & offensive ability will be a nice addition heading into the 2nd half of the season.

Guelph beat Owen Sound 20-3 tonight. Really? 20-3. A little overkill, don't you think?

I almost thought I was looking at either a football or lacrosse game score. WOW

that really doesn't look good , for either the team or the league. I noticed on pointsreak that they only had 12 skaters for that game and the one today, maybe the team been hit with a flu bug :?:

Injuries! 2 shoulders, 2 concussions, 1 collar bone & 1 suspension. Starting Goalie was called up to Villanova which left team with 2 inexperienced goalies to play the top 2 teams. Greys tried to keep battling the Cullitons but Stratford started running players & goalie in the 3rd with game out of reach, willing to take the odd penalty which resulted in 3 of the 5 injuries. So on Saturday, once Guelph got up, OS backed off the physical play. Unfortunately Guelph coach wanted players to pad their stats so kept pressing forward. Greys didnt have access to AP's because they were also playing. Wouldnt have been so bad but it just happened to be a 3game weekend for the Greys. Funny thing is the Greys were playing some amazing hockey! We'll see Friday if they can rebound quickly.
