Knights Announce Ownership of Fergus Devils Junior C

Post by VKnights »

The Villanova Knights announced today that they have added the Fergus Devils of the Georgian Bay Mid Ontario Junior C Hockey League to its group of affiliations effective immediately.

Villanova Owner David Arsenault confirmed today that the Knights have purchased the Devils franchise and he looks forward to "bringing our friends from Fergus into our hockey system."

"It will be a pleasure to work with the town of Fergus and their loyal hockey staff", stated Arsenault. "They are very dedicated and supportive of the Devils team and the directors/volunteers are excited that the Devils will be staying in Fergus."

Arsenault continues by stating that this deal has been in the works for the past couple of months, adding "this completes our vertical affiliation from Junior A (Villanova), through Junior B (Owen Sound) down to Junior C (Fergus).

"We are pleased that our organization is like no other in the OHA, having a three-tiered affiliation to keep all of our players within our system, allowing them to develop and move between them in both directions," added Arsenault.

Former Fergus General Manager Brian Morrison will stay on for a transition period, and most of the current directorship will be staying in place.

Knights' General Manager Barry Rice will become Director of Hockey Operations with coaches Eddy Gaffney and Denis Kirton remaining in their current positions as Head Coach/General Manager and Assistant Coach respectively.

The Knights' Robin Inscoe will work closely with the Fergus executive on marketing and promotions with Joe Montesano dealing with communications.

Tryouts for the Fergus Devils Junior C team will be on June 18 and 19 at RIM Sports Complex in Waterloo. Please go to www.fergusdevils.com for further information and registration.

There will be a formal press conference on Tuesday, May 11 at 4:30 p.m. at the Fergus Legion.
