Niagara Falls Halts GMHL Team

Post by drafty »

The City of Niagara Falls has prevented a Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League team from playing in the city by denying them ice time at the Gale Centre.

Bad for who?
There's only one spectator arena in Niagara Falls and it already houses 2 junior teams (which, of course, take priority), plus all the minor and rental teams. If there's not enough ice time available, end of story.

A different group from the same league have applied to play out of the Seymour Hannah in St.Catharines.
It's a safe bet that this group will also be turned down based on past practices in St. Catharines.

With the IceDogs and Falcons so well established in St. Kitts, there is no chance that another Jr. Team
would be located there.

I also agree, great move in Niagara Falls to keep the outlaw league out. The Canucks and RiverHawks deserve the
support they got from city council.
