We say good-bye to "Joe"

Post by Blades »

I have been given permission from family to make this post and I do so with a saddened and heavy heart.

Our Jr B family have lost one of our own as of last evening -- Joe Brooks.
He was the Equipment Manager for 22 years with the Strathroy Rockets. You always knew Joe was in the house because he would be seen wearing his tri-coloured toque sporting the colours of his beloved Rockets. I never really got to know the man, but I did get to know his daughter -- RocketGirl as she is called on this board.

I know this is a difficult time for the family, going through the steps of grief. On behalf of my family and I, we wish to express our condolences to the Brooks family and will keep them in prayer.

Tonight the Rockets were playing in Sarnia and both of Joe's adult children took in the game -- one as a spectator, the other as bench personnel. They said it was what their dad would have wanted ... and I can totally understand it when you consider how much hockey was a part of Joe's life.

Good bye Joe. You will be missed.

More information can be found on his obituary page

A very, very emotional interview with Sarnia GM Bob Williamson in the second intermission of the myFM radio broadcast. Bob had to work very hard to keep it together and try to keep his composure and emotions in check. That interview summed up what Joe meant to the league. He touched so many lives. He was the kindest and wisest man I've ever known. It is going to be a difficult time for myself and many others this Saturday at the WMMC. It's been a tough, tough, long day to get through. God bless you Joe.

I am sure it will be an emotional night in strathroy. I know when my grandma passed away the first time back in the arena was awful. Sending my thoughts and prayers to RG and the rest of Joe's family.

From the Rockets' facebook page: Your Strathroy Rockets host the St Thomas Stars tonight at the West Middlesex Memorial Centre. We will be honouring the life of Joe Brooks with a ceremony before the game begins at 7:30pm.

Just a little thank you for all your thoughts and stories about Dad.

Here are some photos from the Memorial for my Dad last week.

Thank you to everyone that came out and showed some love for my Dad. As expected, the Legion was absolutely packed and I was told that the receiving line went out the door and down to the front sidewalk.
