TWIG - This Week In the Go

Post by RocketGirl »

This is my first edition of TWIG. Let me know your thoughts, if you want anything added, if you want anything changed, if you know of anything noteworthy for next week, etc.

Would you say players are showing a lack of respect for each other, resulting in these match penalties? Or would you say it's more the league coming down on this type of stuff?

I don't think it's a lack of respect, it's a new rule from the OHF. Once the players figure it out, I don't think you'll see as many. It's similar to 2 years ago when they started cracking down on removal of the chin strap/helmet. The players have figured it out and usually the only ones that get caught on it now are rookies to the league.

I agree with RG. The respect level hasn't changed, it is the way HC and the OHF want the game called. In Major Junior they have a new penalty for Blindsiding that can be a minor major or match depending on intent. They have had a specific rule for slewfoot penalties for a number of years now. The GOJHL does fall under the OHF and they have changed a number of rules to be in line with HC. Many of the GM and MP codes have changed. For example the new GM54 covers a slew foot as does MP48. This might explain some of the confusion in Strathroy with the Latina call. I don't think everyone including pointstreak has the new codes from the OHF, it doesn't seem to be online as yet. Latina was initially recorded as a 5 minute tripping major on pointstreak, then later changed to an MP40 attempt to injure because those are about as close as you can get using the 2015/16 version. I would expect pointstreak will get updated soon with the new codes and it will start making more sense
