Re: 2018-19 Signings

I would have been surprised if the OHF would have turned it down. Part of the Brantford teams mandate was to provide Jr A hockey close enough to St Thomas London and Woodstock that players could still live at home. I don't know that Brantford can support both an A and B team so I was surprised that ...

Re: 2018-19 Signings

What lesson was McCabe supposed to learn? He finished last season in JrA. Even if Inc gets their way with a league split London and Hamilton should be strong as well Hopefully the OHA hands down the ruling shortly so the guess work and rumours can cease. In other predictable news Inc pulled their U1...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

Elmira also announced some significant player signings. It is a good sign to see that some teams plan to move forward regardless of the political issues. These announcements are encouraging.

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

The owners did make decisions but they are only franchisees in the OHA and their decisions have to be inline with the parent companys rules and regulations. It is now August and main camps are ready to open. Time for a final decision and move on. Put the squabble to rest and get on with the season.

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

It will be nice for all involved when the OHF hands down its decision on this appeal. I have a feeling they will back the OHA on this, but regardless of which direction it goes hopefully it is binding and final without the losing side deciding to appeal the OHF decision to Hockey Canada. Main camps ...

Re: 2018-19 Signings

Without Cali it will be interesting to see what team or teams immerge in the Shoe as strong teams. Many scouts and agents have focused more on the Shoe than the other conferences in the league in past seasons. Personally I always thought the Midwest was the better conference.

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

That's interesting since officials used in the past would also do OHL, or JrC as well as minor hockey. Usually you only have to find your own dedicated refs if a league is going outlaw, but to my understanding GOJHL Inc is not.

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

The only league that I know of off the top of my head that polices this sort of thing is the BCHL. They have no league fees however team fees are optional and are capped at $800. The teams must verify to the league that if team fees are imposed all members paid the same amount. Teams must supply all...

Amy team within commuting distance are a competitor for players, so Welland, Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Thorold, even Pelham and Fort Erie could be potentially if the ever got things turned around. Re: GOJHL AGM Today

anyone that played AAA for the last 6 years is used to spending $2000-$4000 a year plus tournament and travel costs...Junior hockey costs aren't so bad if you look at it that way I know a PJHL team where a parent offered them $3,000 to sign his kid as a 16 yr old...."either I give you the mone...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

Let's play devil's advocate here. So Welland has come out saying they're not charging anything beyond the $400 for the OHA. It was said above that St Catharines was $1000, probably on top of the $1100 for OHA and GOJHL. You have a kid that's looking at possibly signing with either club. For the sak...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

I find the timing interesting as well for a few reasons. With all the rumors flying around it sends a message to the players and fans that the Canadians will be operating a team that will be operated in a more traditional way, that being minimal costs to the player to finance the teams operations. M...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

It looks like a few teams are starting to advertise their position on this and plans for the upcoming season. "A number of players have asked "What does it cost to play for the Welland Jr. Canadians?" All players are required to pay the OHA Annual Player Registration Fee for 2018-19. ...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

You wont get any argument from me about the way the OHA operates. They could do a lot of things better including making certain that teams are held accountable. If these teams collected "GOJHL fees" from their players and did not use the money for the purpose advertised (GOJHL Inc) then th...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

So there will be 2 leagues or just one? The OHA has already stated that being a member of GOJHL Inc is not a requirement to play in the GOJHL, but GOJHL Inc says they will refuse to play the so called "non-payers". Someone in HC and/or the OHF needs to step up to the plate and decide if th...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

All teams remain under the OHA as long as they pay their OHA fees which they all have. The issue is that three teams in the shoe did not pay their GOJHL fees last year but still received the privileges of playing in the GOJHL. It appears that this should have been dealt with last year as other team...

3 sides to every story, OHA's, GOJHL INC. and the truth About time OHF and HC step in and clean this on going mess up HC needs to get involved with the OHF. Re: GOJHL AGM Today

Outlaw league teams won't have any OHL affiliates because participation with an outlaw league causes a ban from any sanctioned hockey Canada league for 1 year before they can re-apply for membership. Same goes for their ability to call players up from jrc or minor hockey.. players are usually only b...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

I would question who actually runs the league, the OHA or GOJHL Inc. Presumably the GOJHL has to follow the rules set out by Hockey Canada and the OHA. I would think this league split would need to be endorsed by the governing bodies for both groups to remain in Hockey Canada and appropriate announc...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today

Saying players leave to play in the BCHL because it's cheaper is like saying the players leave the GOJHL to play in the OHL because it's cheaper. I also said it is the best junior league in Canada, however lack of cost to play is also an incentive. As noted above there are a lot of factors that pla...

Close, players do leave now because they can play for less or nothing at all. Reducing what comes out of a players pocket will help will slow the exodus especially with players who aren't getting financial assistance from their parents anymore. Either you are one of the owners or you are drinking the Kool-Aid. The concern over the pay2play is absolutely ridiculous . The dissenting teams charge amongst the highest rates they can. GOJHL Inc are the majority group of owners. They are in favour of the pay2play and collect player fee. There membership is currently 17 The rest of the GOJHL teams (8) are not in favour of the pay2play but players still benefit from what GOJHL Inc provides. GOJHL Inc is a separate entity that repres...
