Re: Must Read For All Hockey Fans and Parents

If a player is good enough to play junior that's where he should be, like it was back in the day when Canada produced most of the elite players. That was before Hockey Canada came up with the HDM that chokes player development at 16. It kind of created a niche for more junior level teams. As for maj...

Re: Must Read For All Hockey Fans and Parents

Generally speaking when multiple players can't make JrC in Hockey Canada sanctioned leagues, but appear in the non sanctioned Jr A loop those facts speak for themselves. Leagues like the GMHL are fueled by fulfilling parents and players unrealistic desires to play Jr A for a price. One could argue t...

Re: GOJHL - Jr. A?

There are some things the GOJHL needs to do better. When I look on the BCHL or the OJHL websites and get relatively up to date information on players coming in, or leaving or trades. Our website is so far behind it isn't funny. Tyler Wall was drafted, before that Caledonia won the Sutherland Cup. An...

Re: The J.H.N. rates GOJHL number one JR-B league

This isn't surprising given that there is no viable Jr A option in SW Ontario. Some of the better players wait until they are finished school and they have better options than the OJ since they have to move to play A anyway. The GO league moving to A could be a double-edged sword. In a way. If the l...

Re: St. Mary's

Bell is from nearby St Paul, was still playing pro in Europe last season. This will draw players back and new ones in the future. It may break the past dependency on London and St Thomas releases. One has to wonder who is coming in as HC. I still think they may have missed the boat on some quality pl...

Re: THE BLACK LIST

Today the Death Pool tees off on the QMJHL. There are at least 2 GOJHL players from last year looking to find a spot in the Q, Griffin Roubos (St Catherines) is in Halifax and John Warren (London) is in Saint John. Has anyone read the disclaimer at the end of the Death Pool? "The Death Pool is ...

Re: St. Mary's

I also find it interesting that their exhibition games are not against Western Conference teams although that could just be the new GM arranging games with people he already knows. There is a saying that a new broom sweeps clean. To get back to where they once were requires a culture change. Like th...

Chatham

According to the NOJHL site Chatham has acquired a 20 year old forward.

July 11, 2016 - Elliot Lake Wildcats transfer Alec MacKenzie to Chatham Maroons Jr. B (GOJHL)

84 points in 90 Jr A games. Looks like a solid pick up for the Maroons.

Main camp is just over a month away, the organization has gutted it self, no coaches in place, only 5 signings announced. I am sure the changes will be good in the long run but how will they field a competitive team this year? http://www.stratfordbeaconherald.com/2016/07/15/rebuilding-st-marys-linco...

Re: Thorold Blackhawks

Georgetown is closer to Toronto so he should get seen more often by the D1 scouts. Unfortunately some of scouts still can't be convinced that the OJHL isn't a better league because of the letter designation.

Re: Elmira Sugar Kings

The BCHL is closing the gap on major junior as well. Biggest difference being that you still qualify for NCAA. The teams are built strictly on talent. The fact that it is free helps it draw the best players in Canada that are not on a Major Junior team. There is no comparison to the OJHL or the GOJH...

Re: Big hill to climb for Simcoe

This is a basic recruitment strategy. Many GMs will tell a player where they envision then fitting in and by this point they usually have a good idea who they will be selecting from. If they don't communicate something why would a player commit? Best advice for the player would be to talk to current...

Re: Off season news/ Player movement: Part 2

I would encourage people to just consider this topic closed by the administrator as not relevant to the league. Most of the player and coach movement for this season is already documented in part 1. Nothing personal Port, but in my opinion the other thread contains 85-90% of any player moves that ar...

Re: Elmira Sugar Kings

The BCHL did heavily scout the GOJHL last season. I would expect the same going forward. It is the top Jr A league in Canada and players don't pay. This season had alot of very good 17 and 18 year olds.

Re: Off season news/ Player movement

Goaltending was the prime reason the rockets got into so many overtime games last year. Gubbles sure saw enough rubber last season, but both rocket incumbents are 20 year olds that could opt to jump to Jr C next season for an extra year. It happened last year with Oulette, the last thing any team ne...
