Re: london free press article - concussions

You won't erase concussions but there are steps that other leagues are taking to reduce the frequency. The NHL has given out stiff penalties to players that habitually target the head, the OHL has suspended players for blindside hits and targeting the head this season even if the ref doesn't make a ...

Re: Epic battle for final playoff spot, Lambton Shores controls their own destiny

The race for the cellar took an expected turn tonight with the St Thomas Stars man handling the understaffed Preds tonight. Selling off the top talent and the inability to find a full roster for the remaining league games will help the Predators win the coveted Golden Plunger award again this year. ...

Bussing players to road games. Is it worth the cost?

On a couple of other threads suggestions have been made that having the team travel together to road games is an unneeded cost. The players should be able to drive themselves to the game or get their parents or billets to drive them to away games depending on distance. While this may look like a sim...

Because the bus wouldn't drive as far they would save money? I don't think Chatham or Sarnia would be that concerned over a few nickels. Good point about fan attendance.

Re: Battisti suspended 10 games

The nets in Strathroy come off SO easily. I swear a strong cross breeze would knock them off. Certainly the goalies for both the Rockets and their opponents take advantage of it, especially the Rocket goaltenders. It always baffles me that the problem isn't fixed, but maybe the Rockets don't want i...

He shot a puck in the refs direction and made contact. That falls within the description of physical abuse.

Re: Battisti suspended 10 games

Battisti may have also been a victim of some of the media attention towards physical abuse of officals. Dennis Wideman just got 20 games for something he claimed was accidental. Battisti got 1/2 that. I think the OHA wants to send a message about abuse of officials and Battisti is the example being ...

Re: Undrafted Players Earning Major Junior Tryouts

Major Junior teams sign some free agents every year so the do come from somewhere. Currently there are at least 4 undrafted 98s playing in either the OHL or QMJHL from the Western Conference area alone. Some 97s made the move as well. It wouldn't surprise me to see more next season in either league ...

Re: Who has the nicest Jerseys/logos from each Conference?

I would agree, the Sarnia jerseys are the top ones. They have the best logo hands down, classic style jersey and the Red Wings style name bars. They look like a hockey jersey should. No off the wall stripe and colour schemes (eg St Catherines and Chatham), no cartoon character logo smeared on the fr...

Re: cleaning house

The Rockets are very similar to the mid 90s London Knights. In the 1994-95 season the team was sold and the new Knights Prez had a keen interest in hockey but his experience was limited to that of a spectator. His work experience was in the food service industry. In the initial stages he disrupted s...

I heard the story tonight and am thinking disgusted might be a better word for it. How does an organization dispense with 1/4 century or so of its own history and of all methods with a mid season email? I really don't see this creating anything but a more negative image than has been built over this...

Shooting the messenger doesn't make the problem go away. There are lessons that should have been learned over this season to prevent a repeat next year. I could list some of them but little point as long as the rose coloured glasses are still on.

Wideman is hurt on the play and had he simply skated into the lineman it might be believable that it was unavoidable. Instead he brought his arms up and shoved the unsuspecting linesman from behind into the door of the Nashville bench. Luckily the door was closed or he might have looked like Kris Dr...

London coach points finger at epidemic head injuries plaging Nats lineup.

The following is a quote from the London Free Press following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Leamington Flyers. Step one is to get John Warren healthy. He’s the Nats most dynamic offensive player, with 28 goals and 53 points in just 26 games. The power play dearly missed him in this defeat. “He’s ...

Re: Can anyone stop Caledonia in a best of seven series?

I guess it comes down to what you see as development. Is a 20 yr player that comes down a level to get more ice time a bad thing? Tyler Hill was told (written in an article) that his ice time was going to be reduced based on where the Storm were in the standings. He had options to stay, be traded o...

Re: Can anyone stop Caledonia in a best of seven series?

Well written article. I hope the league does not make a snap decision based on one year. I look at jr hockey as a league for players 16-20. It is up to the teams how they put that 23 man roster together. Some focus on younger players, and cash in as they move up. Some develop and sell at the trade ...

Re: Can anyone stop Caledonia in a best of seven series?

Very well written RG. A positive spin off that I can see with a limit restriction on 20 year olds is that teams will need to develop their younger players to be able to compete this season and not just be spectators as rookies. The other thing a limit would do is force the teams to be more selective...

The Rockets have a lot of OT experience over the season, the 2 wins over this stretch came over St Marys and Lambton Shores 2 other "very young teams". In fact the only draw was a Lambton Shores game as well. Last night was another OT game against another young team from Sarnia for the 4th...

Re: Can anyone stop Caledonia in a best of seven series?

Is it still junior hockey when you dress a team that is 90% OA players. In reality a team this old should likely consider competing for the Allan Cup instead of playing against teams that are in general 2 years younger. This also draw to why it maybe time for the GOJHL to put limits on how many OA p...

Generally 17 year old rookies that aren't go to guys aren't worth 3K after 18 games. A veteran might draw that but it would be to fill a specific role.
