Re: CAMBRIDGE SITUATION

Nothing new...if you have ever dealt with HC with registration/governance issues, they get their back up when challenged! It is pretty ridiculous up here. In the US, USAH was challenged in the court of law and lost! We just don't have the patience up here to wait and wait and wait......And wait for ...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

Not much different at all. But let's look at your perspective for a moment. Let's say a kid plays minor hockey in....Port Stanley. He is good enough to play AAA come Bantam and decides to go and try out for Elgin-Middlesex (assuming that is the home centre). So he can go an try out for AAA with Elgi...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

The taxpayer is already on the hook for it. The ministry of Heritage and Sport already gives Hockey Canada upwards of $4.5 million per year to "govern". That money is then allocated to each provincial branch. In Ontario, we have 3 branches. The OHA falls under the OHF. The OHF allocates an...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

Economics..you are definitely right! More and more and more teams means more registration monies for the OHA! And at the end of the day, isn't that who is the most important to be happy? (tongue firmly in cheek)

Re: Thorold Blackhawks.

Logistically, it would be the most business-smart and hockey-smart thing to do! But you also need to get Cambridge back into the fold with, or without, Joe Machado at the helm. Then, dump Buffalo! I will pay out of pocket the registration fee the OHA would be missing out on but for me, the credibili...

And I assume that CW gets paid from the majority of these assessment fees? I have heard he makes approximately $60k?? If this is true, he should be doing a helluva lot more than he appears to be doing!!

Honestly, I believe the commish will wait until he is given directive from the OHA!

As for the Assessment Fee...I assume that goes to the OHA to cover their continuous inexplicable losses!

Not to mention their crock of sh*t known as the OJDL!! Basically a summer league "affiliated" with the teams..all for the low, low price of $5k plus per player!

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

No offense but...back in the Metro Junior days we used to get EVERYTHING for free other than our skates, shin pads, elbow pads and chest protectors. We got an allotment of sticks for the year and guess what, that was before the mess that is the OHA/OJHL and we still paid the big zero! So tell me now...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

Not so long ago, the OJHL, OHA, OHF and Hockey Canada were critical of the Greater Metro Hockey League and their "Pay-to-Play" model. It was often the basis of the attacks against the GMHL that it was a "profit" driven league and people were making lots of money off of the player...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

Yes, a registration fee imposed by OHA/HC is a little different than a $5-7k team fee in the OJHL...who still have to pay that fee as well\!

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

No I do get it! The biggest battle facing this league is combatting the image that the OJHL is "the place to be". I know lots of guys, and I say that conservatively, who played in this league and went on to play professionally. Some of those same players now work in advisory roles within t...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

Again...this league lacks leadership! It's obvious they do not understand (or care) what is mainstream and what kids want! When you start to rest on your laurels, you begin to look more and more like the governing bodies in this province and country! Think outside the box and be creative!! When you ...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

Honestly, I am beginning to believe that the people overseeing this league and the teams know nothing about the game nor the needs/wants of prospective and current players!!! I think...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

It's just the dangling of the proverbial dangling of the carrot. Sure they will out it out there...but they will put conditions on the application to make it utterly impossible. Hockey Canada makes the rules, this is true. But they also like to mind their business when it comes to the goings on with...

cchl, The advisors thing...I wouldn't put it past some of these guys to push kids to the OJ. I had a friend who contacted me. An advisor wanted $7k to "advise". I asked him what his son wanted to do and he said Prep school. He was told to play 1 year in the OJ and then Prep would be an opt...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues

CCHL, That was the biggest issue with the OJ a number of years ago was the fact that there were "Daddy" owners who almost singlehandedly ran the league into the ground. In fact, it was so bad and the talent was so lacking that many NCAA "guys" I know hardly had the league on thei...

Fact finding process? You want constants? That is the one constant with hockey in Ontario. They will also ask or question "rationale" when a request is made from a member but when it comes down to it, they themselves are void of any rationale in the decision-making process unless it involv...

The landscape is changing..but..why wait for the powers that be to do the landscaping for you! Sit down, and make decisions in the best interest of the league moving forward and cut your own grass. I have heard that Junior A status will increase the value of teams. Please do not tell me this transit...

I love how they group in the MTJHL....we were not part of the Provincial Junior loop...actually hated them and our teams routinely beat the crap out of them!!! Re: Lambton Shore Predators to Komoka?

I find it very ironic that the article evens mentions the "selling of players". That is what I have heard is the biggest issue with this club. Whether it is in Komoka or the Forest, if this owner, with league blessing, continues to sell off players to pocket cash, pretty soon the local sup...
