Well it wasn't Bill Bowler as many had suspected.
Instead the Windsor Spitfires named former NHLer and Sarnia Sting head coach Trevor Letowski as the third bench coach.

Thompson will be joined behind the bench this season by Assistant Coach Jerrod Smith and a third coach, who will be hired in the coming days.
Well that remaining assistant coaching spot is still up for grabs. I guess we will see in the next few days.

Nats Goalie Ranked in NHL Draft
The final rankings for the June 26/27 NHL draft had former London National goaltender Liam Herbst ranked as the 10th best overall for North American goalies. Didn't spot any other Western Conference alumni. Liam was the number one goaltender last year for the Ottawa 67s, The 6'4", 195ib Mississ...

I've heard about some 6'7" power forward they are trying to sign. With Tony behind the bench, they should be a contender every year. Big, Big shoes to fill for the GM spot. Mike Sadler did a heck of a job getting them players. I'm sure he will still direct a few their way.

Re: Former Rockets GM Named to OHA Board
The article mentions that Dan may be the first Strathroy native to sit on the OHA board. There was at least one earlier that I know of. Jack (Jake) Oakes was the former convenor and second vice-president of the OHA. It was expected that Strathroy native Oakes would succeed Clarence “Tubby” Schmalz a...

Re: Is GMHL a Threat?
Did we pick up a team somewhere? The last time I checked the GOJHL only had 26 teams not 27 as commissioner Williams stated. Perhaps Buffalo is back this year? I heard rumours they might be back, or possibly move to a new location. Any news from the Golden Horseshoe on that? If we have three 9-team ...

Re: Bondy named GM of Rockets, steps down as Head Coach
I have to go with RocketGirl on this one. I don't like retreads. Don't like recycling someone's old coach. I'd prefer to start with new faces, new ideas and give them an opportunity to develop too. The atmosphere will certainly be different in Rocketland this year. New president. New board members. ...

Other than the London Nationals' Drew Worrad (story below from the London Free Press) has anyone heard of any other Division I scholarships to the GOJHL? Drew Worrad didn’t have to leave London to land a big-time U.S. college hockey scholarship with Clarkson. The local puck pipeline to the south — d...

As critical as we are at times with our officials, they are trying their best and do us all a tremendous service. The Stars could be a tough team to beat next year. Ron Horvat always gets the best out of his players and they should have an excellent nucleus coming back. I really enjoyed watching them play last year.

I recall when the Aylmer Aces fans smashed the headlights of the Rocket fan bus. They were likely thinking it was the team bus but got the fan bus instead. Good thing the Corvairs just got eggs. Those fans were stranded in Aylmer for a while. Tough looking for a new pair of bus headlights late at ni...

Re: LaSalle takes game 1
LaSalle certainly outworked them. They had a lot more jump in their step than Caledonia. The Corvairs may have been guilty of reading their press clippings. A lot of folks felt that the "finals" were really the semi with Leamington and that once the Flyers were disposed of the real finals ...

Re: LaSalle eliminates mighty Sugar Kings
I suppose the premise here is what if the best 2 teams in the GOJHL are from the same conference. They would like to have the two of them playing off for the cup. That may have happened last year. Caledonia and St. Catharines may have been the best 2 teams in the GOJHL and they both played for the c...

I hope we have a great series, but Caledonia looks so incredibly strong, it could and should be over very quickly. I can recall the 2006 finals between Cambridge and Strathroy in which the Winter Hawks swept the Rockets in 4 straight. Cambridge was so much stronger than Strathroy, we might still be ...

Re: LaSalle eliminates mighty Sugar Kings
Two years with a wild card format and both years the wild card team makes it to the finals. Perhaps an indication of how much parity there is among the top clubs. The LaSalle win has to go down as a big surprize especially after losing the first two games by such a wide margin - both 7-2 Elmira wins...

Re: Caledonia headed to Sutherland Cup finals for second straight year
They are the best looking hockey club that I have seen in a long time. They make such great decisions with and without the puck. They can really make the game look easy. Their play was so clean they hardly gave the Flyers anything. Rarely would the Flyers have a second chance in front of the net and...

Thanks for tbe origin of name. When I was looking online for an answer I noticed that Time magazine had the 61 Corvair listed in their 50 Worst Cars of All Time issue. I read that too RG. Other than the Chevy Corvair car, there are some folks who have converted Corvair car engines into airplane engines. Their former Junior C logo looks a bit aeronautical. I was just wondering on the historical reference.
