Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues
No offense but...back in the Metro Junior days we used to get EVERYTHING for free other than our skates, shin pads, elbow pads and chest protectors. We got an allotment of sticks for the year and guess what, that was before the mess that is the OHA/OJHL and we still paid the big zero! So tell me no...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues
I know for a fact most of the Cambridge players paid around 2K this year.FrozenPonds wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 10:51 am Yes, a registration fee imposed by OHA/HC is a little different than a $5-7k team fee in the OJHL...who still have to pay that fee as well\!
It's not 5, but it's not chump change either.

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues
I know for a fact they pay to play in the GOJ too. Sorry.
Some teams pay the fees because they have budgets -- like Stratford, Elmira, Chatham, Caledonia, etc.

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues
Again...this league lacks leadership! It's obvious they do not understand (or care) what is mainstream and what kids want! When you start to rest on your laurels, you begin to look more and more like the governing bodies in this province and country! Think outside the box and be creative!! When you...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues
It has everything to do with the A moniker and not being able to retain players rights. When OJ teams can just pay 1500 for a player who's been developed in the GOJ, it's a no brainer. Players looking to move up go to the OJ and the bulk of players who come from the OJ/NOJ/CCHL are guys who are goin...

Re: why do players leave for the junior A leagues
As for the "secret agreement", I think it is regarded as an after thought in the minds of most OJHL fans. As far as I know, its a held belief that that is true. The OJHL has come out and basically said such. And that's why nobody east of Hamilton even blinks an eye with all the endless ch...

Kitchener Rangers and Kitchener Dutchmen are affiliated.
From what I've heard, the Rangers get to use one of the Dutchies two 16 year old cards every year.

Re: Simcoe Storm headed for Waterford
The Jr B 99ers don't have financial issues. In fact, they have a very healthy budget in comparison to teams like Guelph, Waterloo, etc. as far as the Mid-West goes. But they end up selling players because they ask to get the hell out.

Re: Sutherland Cup Semi Finals; Caledonia vs Elmira
Elmira was the best team in the Midwest, IMO. Sometimes teams hit snags and I felt they did that in the Cherrey Finals.
But Reinhart can straight up win the Suthy himself - he's the best goalie I've seen play in our league in a long time.

Re: Disparity in League
Problem is the OJ wants nothing to do with the GOJ,and the OHA does very little to fix things. That's why I feel the GOJHL needs to fix this on their own. Instead of trying to be classed as JR A, make one division of the top three teams in each current division. It will be the best JR hockey in Ont...

Re: Favorites to win it all
I don't think you're giving the Midwest enough credit. They're usually one of the most competitive each year, and beat the living sh** out of each other so the Cherry Cup winners are usually pretty banged up. From my vantage point, Elmira is a legit contender. Listowel has done a lot of winning this...

Apparently Gazzolla (sp?) is hurt and may not play this year according to a tweet from Jason Lott. Makes sense why he'd want another year.
Anyone know why Michaelis went to C? He was a top 6 in Jr. A. Seems odd to me.

TRADE DEADLINE (Deals, Signings, Rumours, Etc.)
What's everyone got? Mid-West - Kitchener brought back 96G Jackson McIntosh. They've had subpar goaltending this year, so this should help. - Talk that Kyle Walker in Brantford might be available? - Cambridge sent Will Harvey (who started in Caledonia) to Jr. C - Waterloo has added Nolan Regan from ...

Re: Disparity in League
If the Community funded teams are committed to winning ie. Stratford, they will go out and find the sponsorship dollars needed to be competitive. If your team is a circus side show ie. St. Mary's, then it's tough to find committed sponsorship. Private isn't always the way to winning either ie. Lamb...

The NOJHL isn't that great - most guys who come from there see a small drop off here, unless they come from one of the "have" programs like the TBirds.

Look at Harvey coming to the Midwest and being essentially average - same with in Caledonia.

It doesn't matter. The OJHL was the laughing stock of NCAA hockey a few years back when they had 40+ teams. The league was an utter joke! The GOJHL has a good thing going. Their attendance puts the OJHL attendance to shame. Many an OJ team can only dream of having the attendance numbers of most GOJ...
