Re: Stratford(2) vs London(3), Sutherland Cup Semifinal Playoff Thread, & Predictions
This is the first and only time Caledonia has loaded up like this. We all know it's to try and set league history. Funny how nobody cares about the Flyers landing Manchurek, or Waterloo getting C.Jean ... Just two examples. It's because Caledonia found several great players. And most of them have p...

Re: Sutherland Cup Format
I know some owners would not like that added expense of travel. But at some point the league must move forward and leave the weak behind that can't keep up. There is Jr C that would suit some teams better, where travel would be reduced. Don't let these owners hold the rest from moving forward! Got ...

Re: Stats primer for the 2016 Sutherland Cup* (aka, The Asterisk Series)
Is the GOJHL a development league? Yes. The GOJHL primarily wants to develop players for the OHL, NCAA D1, NCAA D3 and CIS. (Don't give me bull about developing for the OJ - the league is working towards Jr. A status and consistently hates that OJ teams pick players from their rosters.) The NHL is t...

Re: Sutherland Cup Format
Interesting editorial from Cory Smith of the Stratford Beacon Herald about the current Sutherland Cup format and how maybe they should go back to the old format, with the round robin, or look at making 4 Conferences, or 2 as has been floated around here. http://www.stratfordbeaconherald.com/2016/04...

Playing Saturday night at 7:30 and then Sunday at 1:30? You could tell. Both teams looks absolutely gassed. Was not the kind of hockey you expect at this time of year.

Congrats to Stratford, and to Waterloo on a heck of a run.
Depending on who the Siskins return, they could be a lot more competitive next year. Although younger teams who make runs tend to have their rosters picked apart...

Re: Conference Finals: Stratford(2) vs Waterloo(6), Playoff Thread & Predictions
I agree with you ILuvHackey. It looked to me that Mantz was falling when he got hit. Doesn't mean it wasn't as severe, as he was down and not moving for quite some time, but it looked like he was falling, wasn't a blindside as Port has suggested. Hopefully he's ok, don't like to see anyone down. I ...

Re: Conference Finals: Stratford(2) vs Waterloo(6), Playoff Thread & Predictions
B.Heshka better get at least 10-15 games. His hit was a blindside hit, with contact being made with the head. It was a brutal hit and showed a complete lack of respect for the game. Now Waterloo has a top 6 forward out for who knows how long(G.Mantz), because some bottom pair defensemen decides to ...

Re: And the Caledonia debate continues, with plenty of false statements
I've always wondered if a draft would work at the OJ and GOJ levels. It could work and should be implemented. That way there's no teams loading up. Something we agree on ;-) If we could get to 2 conferences with 8 teams of the 13 making playoffs, plus either a draft or removing teams having rights ...

Re: And the Caledonia debate continues, with plenty of false statements
Part of the Nats recruitment process, and it has been for years, is that when a team like Strathroy or St. Thomas or St. Marys asks for a release for a kid, that they have never heard of, the Nats immediately say NO, we need to look at him first. That's why people think we get their 'cast offs'. Wo...

Re: Conference Finals: Stratford(2) vs Waterloo(6), Playoff Thread & Predictions
I watched about 30 seconds of that game... I saw a trip not get called, then Waterloo was whistled for tripping/hooking seconds later. I was wondering what the officiating was like in that game. I'm a Cambridge fan, so I have some bias, but Stratford is always on the good end of calls in the Allman...

Last nights game. Just like ILuvHackey said A questionable hooking call to Siskins forward Jared Lindsay set the wheels in motion as the Cullitons detonated for four consecutive markers in that wild six minutes, including a pair on the power-play. http://www.therecord.com/sports-story/6440128-culli...

Re: Conference Finals: Stratford(2) vs Waterloo(6), Playoff Thread & Predictions
First game I've watched in the MW Playoffs where I felt like the reffing really had an impact. Waterloo were the better team through 30 and a couple baffling calls deflated them. They didn't show up after that, and called it a night. Too bad because these two teams have played good hockey - both fas...

Re: And the Caledonia debate continues, with plenty of false statements
I hope they falter tired of the same team wining. More changes are needed if true parity will come. It's hard for many teams when the top centers (London for example) have to "release" the top AAA Midget players because they own the rights to London players at this level. Players should b...

Re: Conference Finals: Stratford(2) vs Waterloo(6), Playoff Thread & Predictions
Waterloo are not great skaters and couldn't set anything up on the big Ice. I can see them being a good team on a small ice surface but on a bigger surface it showed why they were the 6th place team They're a skating hockey team. They're at their best on big ice. They controlled the play for 10 min...

Re: 20 Year Olds Restrictions
This league needs to deside what they are. They talk about being a development league, but then complain about players being coached by other leagues. They want good quality hockey, but then complain some teams are to good, to many 20yr players. They should be more focussed on raising the competive...

Splitting into 2 or 4 will happen. It's a slow morph as they make the league to closer resemble the OJ as they work towards Jr. A status.

Waterloo- Top forward N.Schnarr has missed their last 3 games with an undisclosed injury. Defensemen A.Lane has missed their last two games, while defensemen V.Robbins didn't play in their last game. All three players status are unkown. Lane played in their win over Kitchener - he was a 2 game susp...

If Waterloo takes it, it'll be a quick one (5 games). But if it goes 7, Stratford takes it.
Going with a long 7 game series - bet most games are of the 9-7, 12-9 variety between these two.

Re: Don't let them do to the GOJHL want they did to CCHL 2 (EOJHL)
The GOJHL is trying to get Jr. A status, not become an affiliate of the OJ. This is pretty unfounded. And apparently the OJHL is doing everything it can to block this league from getting Jr.A status. I don't see why. Why can't the OJHL be one league, and the GOJHL the other league? Scrap the Suther...

For whatever it means, I like the rule. Limits them like Junior A, discourages CHL throwaways, but rewards players who played in the GOJHL.
The next hurdle for the league is player retention of it's good 18-19 year olds.
