Re: SUTHERLAND CUP FINAL: Caledonia(1st, GHL) vs London(2nd, West) Predictions & Playoff Thread
Flyers, your team lost in 6 to the Nats, fair and square, despite your sobbing and sniveling about blown calls and injuries. Then the Nats beat Stratford in 6, fair and square. They did this with their own bumps and bruises, just like every other team has to grapple with, and they did it without th...

Re: GOJHL Combine and Spring Camps
I believe Ayr is an affiliate of the Kitchener Dutchmen so that may not be a good example. St. Marys could try to draw from Woodstock/Ingersoll/Dorchester as well as going after some Stratford cuts as they are the choice of destination for Huron Perth grads. St Thomas is generally the preferred dest...

GOJHL Combine and Spring Camps
The GOJHL 1st combine came and went last weekend. Has anyone heard any feedback on it:? Spring camps get underway this weekend in LaSalle and Sarnia. Coming up shortly Leamington will start its rebuild as well as the Chatham camp gets underway. Later on London goes head to head with Strathroy on the...

Re: Breaking the rules set by the OHA(In Response to 'Stats Primer')
.....I've made a list of teams that, according to at least two reliable sources, have paid players at some point between 2000-2016. Teams from the GOJHL: London Strathroy Sarnia Leamington Chatham Stratford Kitchener Guelph Elmira Listowel Waterloo St.Catharines Niagara Falls Thorold Stoney Creek(n...

That is interesting, the word I had heard at the conclusion of Lambton Shores season was that they were excited about having Matt Ashman coach the team and he was looking forward to coaching next season. You never know when things might change.

Re: Stats primer for the 2016 Sutherland Cup* (aka, The Asterisk Series)
Kitchener is the Rangers affiliate so many of the players they have are sent to them. It isn't the same. As for Baumann he was not a key piece for Guelph in their Memorial Cup run and was often used as a 4th line forward that year as well. Many of the Cali 20 year olds would have been bubble kids fo...

I am good with any format that doesn't include round robins. Wild would prevent a team from only making it in by being in a weak pool.

Re: Stratford(2) vs London(3), Sutherland Cup Semifinal Playoff Thread, & Predictions
I wouldn't say everything they've done is legal. And if it was the Rockets that had done this, or the Nationals, or the Maroons, how would you feel? This 'Caledonia Thing' is about a lot more than just how many 20 year olds they have. I am not sure Caledonia did anything illegal under the current r...

Best of luck to London in representing the West. "The obvious choices to go to the West would be Listowel and Stratford, and then I'd add Brantford and Cambridge as well, then flip the other 5 to the Golden Horseshoe. That could set up some new and fun rivalries. You would play 4 games against your own Conference, 2 home and 2 away, and then ...

Re: Hockey Parent Confidential
I found what the coach said in the second half of the tape most interesting. He touches on the backroom deals that do happen from minor atom to minor midget. The types of hockey parents he mentions in the first half are in the open and seen in arenas everywhere and eventually their child becomes a &...

Re: 20 Year Olds Restrictions
That is the first time that I have heard that the non-import rule has been lifted to include the entire GOJHL. It is what was asked for a couple of years ago and denied so we had to settle for non-imports within our own conference the following year, now it is the entire league. That will help a lo...

I think Leamington wins this in 6 on coaching and consistent play. No wild card for the West this season, it will go to the Midwest runner up.

Re: Strathroy Rockets Post Mortem
The Rockets mini camp date has been announced. It will take place on May 14th. This is also the same date that the London Nationals are holding their camp. The St Thomas and St Marys camp (being held at Thompson Arena in London this year) are being held later so they can have access to the London cu...

Sarnia Legionnaires Post Mortem
The Legionnaires were a very competitive team this season inspite of going through a serious rebuild from the previous season. With no returning goalie and only one returning defenceman they built a very solid squad this season that competed well. They took a Sutherland Cup experienced LaSalle team ...

St Thomas Stars Post Mortem
The Stars were the biggest disappointment of the 1st round. In the first half they rode Valentini and Henderson and cut through teams like a knife through butter. At times they were accused of being a one line team but since no one could stop the two London Knights players it didn't much matter. The...

Re: Strathroy Rockets Post Mortem
I am sure this announcement comes with mixed feelings. Good to see that the directors have enough confidence in Riggin to make this announcement early. He accomplished a lot with what he was given to work with and will only get better with more experience. It is interesting to see that the Rockets a...

Strathroy Rockets Post Mortem
The last time the Rockets won a playoff game before this round was Mar 19th 2013. Dan Gibson finished the season as GM and head coach that year. The win was at the WMMC before 1075 fans. How things have changed. This years Rocket team was one of the leanest in talent on record. A poorly organized pr...

Re: #3 LaSalle vs #6 Sarnia playoff thread
Sarnia screwed royally last night. They scored in OT and it was a good goal, no kicking at all and the other disallowed goal was Lasalle goalie knocking off net, like he did repeatedly. Then to add insult to injury goalie dives and they are awarded a penalty where LaSalle scores winner. http://www....

Nobody can say we are a young team like the Lincolns. This years team was comprised of all one 16 year old and the rest were all 17 or 18. No 19 or 20 year olds. It shouldn't surprise anyone that they weren't a much of a match for the Leamington Flyers in round one. Like any off season there will be...

The Preds missed playoffs this year, but still have a lot of potential in their lineup. Sarfati and Sproviero are likely to move on but should either or both return the Preds could be a team to contend with. Phillips and Berube will get serious consideration by their OHL teams but like the two previ...

Re: GOJHL Midget Combine
I thought it was interesting until I read it is first come first served. So if 20-25 house league players get in early enough they will be the ones the scouts will be watching as they clog up the ice in three 20-20-20 games. The league does scoop 27K for this so the question becomes, is this worthwh...

I thought Joe was very deserving of the award. It was also nice to see Carson Brookshaw of St Thomas recognized for the hard work he has put in to advance his game. The two best choices at the awards night in my opinion.

Not good news for the Legionnaires who have not been very good in their last 10 games. They had a very strong showing in December and have never got back on track. A very strong powerplay earlier in the season wasn't very good at all in February. LaSalle has been heading in the opposite direction, e...

Re: #2 London vs #7 Strathroy playoff thread
Strathroy only had 5 shots on net in the 1st period. London was the better team in all 3 zones all 3 periods. Just a typical game where skill wins out in the end. 3 of London's 7 goals came on the powerplay against the #23 ranked penalty kill. If Strathroy wants to have a chance in this they need to...

London and LaSalle finish the season tied with 67 points, 3 head to head wins each 31 wins each and 14 losses. With a league wide goal differential calculation London comes out on top however head to head LaSalle outscored London 23-22. Who really deserves 2nd place?

London is a mystery, good team decent local talent. They had a lot of fan interest in Justin Murray last year and would have thought DiCicco and Vinogradov would have given them some mileage at the attendance gate. It just doesn't seem like the fan base is as engaged with this team as some in the pa...

Re: Epic battle for final playoff spot, Lambton Shores controls their own destiny
The Lincolns definitely earned that win last night. They want to make the play-offs, and they played like it last night. Was it the Lincolns play or the Rockets penalty kill and goalie that let them down? Word around the WMMA was the goalie couldnt stop a thing and ended up being pulled. To bad for...
