Re: GOJHL AGM Today
At the end of the day, someone in Ontario should be able to figure out how to run a Junior hockey system here at least as well at a competitive cost to the player as the other Canadian junior leagues. The fact that more players leave Ontario (especially OHA territory) to play hockey than come here s...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today
Every year players will evaluate fees. Fact is that not everyone one is convinced they are getting there money's worth out of GOJHL fee. For example there is no prospect event for 19 and 20 year olds. There don't appear to have been a significant increase in NCAA or CIS commitments directly from the...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today
The commissioner gets about 50K plus expenses. I guess the other 340K goes somewhere. Back to structure. If the GOJHL is the only JrB league under the OHA and the OHA has territorial rights that include all of southwestern Ontario, how can Inc teams play in a differnt league than the mainstream.GOJH...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today
So the bottom line is that when players are told that they must pay a $750 fee to the GOJHL to play in the league, that is a misleading statement. The GOJHL fee is really just part of a team assessment that should have been properly disclosed as being a membership due that is required by the particu...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today
Does the Greater Ontario Hockey League fall under the jurisdiction of the OHA or GOJHL Inc. Is this Commissioner a league employee under the OHA, or is he the CEO of GOJHL Inc?

Re: GOJHL AGM Today
Player cost for league fees in PJHL is about $400 (OHA fee), GOJHL is about $1150 (OHA + GOJHL fees). Then it can go up from there depending on the team. Most teams in both charge an additional team assessment fee that can range from a few extra hundred to upwards of $2500 maybe more. Some teams wil...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today
It is still a very difficult mandate when you have to convince the NCAA and CIS recruiters that they should spend the same amount of resources scouting the OHA's Jr B league as they would the OHA's Jr A league. Knowledgeable people close to the league realize the differences in talent aren't that bi...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today
The OHA has already stated that the GOJHL is the Jr B league in Ontario and membership in GOJHL Inc is not a requirement to play in the GOJHL. That in itself would suggest that a GOJHL Inc membership is not necessary to participate or set rules or policy. Pay to play has been a controversial issue i...

Re: GOJHL AGM Today
The OJHL can recruit players from the GOJHL and only pay the prescribed development fee. If GOJHL inc could be classified as a Jr A league, the OJHL teams would have to arrange a trade just like they do for a player from one of the other Jr A leagues. Those acquisitions are more expensive. GOJHL Inc...

Re: GOJHL'ers going to OJHL
The GOJHL showcase is too early. Most new talent wont see the ice much because they are feeling out the league still. Top end returnees are often in OHL camps of haven't even had a practice with the team and are thrown into games. Better leagues operated there's end of September or Early October whe...

Re: OHA JrB GOJHL July 6 letter
OK but if GOJHL Inc is not sanctioned or recognized by Hockey Canada, the OHF or OHA then how can they determine or legally limit membership in the Greater Ontario Hockey League, an entity that is sanctioned by all 3. When players pay the $750 fee to GOJHL Inc, are there some tangible benefits that ...

The OJHL went back to June 1st once they activated their so it can be done. It may not seem relevant to some but giving the fan base information on who will be playing is never a bad thing

GOJHL Pointstreak site activated for 2018/19
The GOJHL website has now opened for the 2018-19 season. It will be interesting to see if they update the transactions page to show the player moves that have occurred since last season ended.

Re: OHA ATTENDANCE FIGURES
I heard Buffalo led the league in on-line viewing - mileage plus border crossing made it very appealing to parents/fans The great thing about watching a game from Buffalo on HockeyTV is that you can easily change the channel to a better game after the first 5 minutes or 5 goals against, whichever c...

Re: GOJHL'ers going to OJHL
I have seen Jr C players move on to play in the NOJHL for 3 years that would have struggled in the GOJHL. It is a lower end Jr A league.

Re: GOJHL'ers going to OJHL
It does seem that way. I am surprised more by number of 20 year olds that are going, seems older than in most years. Hopefully they have done their due diligence as far as real out of pocket expenses go when moving to the OJ. I have also noticed an interesting number of players coming into the GOJHL...

The OJHL finally have their transaction page up for this season. Add in Will Barber (Sarnia) going to Oakville, Grant Spence (Chatham) going to North York and Wes Dobbin (Komoka) going to Cobourg. I might have missed a few since it is a long list.

Re: 2018-19 Signings
Adam Keyes (St Thomas) is also on his way to Cobourg. It seems like there is a lot of player movement both ways between the GOJHL and the OJHL this year and a number of players leaving the NOJHL to play GOJHL this year. Not sure if it is more prevalent than other seasons or not.

Re: Brantford going Jr A
It is somewhat encouraging that the OHA has not voiced a concern about this, although their lack of response is a bit puzzling. There should be Jr A hockey available west of the GTA, so that is encouraging as well. Unfortunately some Jr B players in Brantford are in limbo since there is no firm comm...

Brantford going Jr A
Looks like the Milton Icehawks are moving to Brantford and will be known as the 99ers. What does this mean for the future of GOJHL hockey in the Brantford region with the recent folding of the Caledonia Corvairs.

Re: 2018-19 Signings
Why the sudden spike in signings through mid to end of June? Do teams just get anxious or is there some kind of deadline that has to be met for some of this? Apparently all players in minor hockey and junior C are free agents now, so teams are being more aggressive because they can't sit on them un...
