Re: Golden Horseshoe Top Three in GOJHL

Thanks, Cali. It would be great if there were more cross-over games between conferences other than the two games they play at the pre-season showcase so the teams could get a flavour for one another. For instance, maybe at the mid-season point, teams could be seeded in some cross-over matches so the...

Re: Golden Horseshoe Top Three in GOJHL

There were two factors that led to the Nationals performing so poorly against Caledonia (at least in the first three games) relative to how other teams in the GH or Midwest may have performed against them in the post-season. One, is familiarity. When you play a team several times over the course of ...

Re: CALEDONIA CORVAIRS WIN 3RD STRAIGHT SUTHERLAND CUP, LAND IN THE HISTORY BOOKS!!!

I echo CF's special congrats to the multi-year Corvair players and guys who spent their entire career in the GO. Was impressed during the series by their skill and thought in several cases they outshone the late edition OHL overagers. There's no question that this club challenges other teams to rais...

2015-16 London Nationals, Sutherland Cup finalists: "The word proud doesn't really do it..."

A note of hearty and much-deserved congratulations to the London Nationals players, coaching staff and management team on an absolutely stellar season, ending as Sutherland Cup finalists. You are the undisputed champions of the West and Midwest Conferences, and you put up a valiant battle against th...

Cali, I for one, have never questioned the skill or work ethic or quality of the coaching with the Corvair$. Apart from some critical comments directed at Zottl following the incident that led to his 9-game suspension during reg season, I've not directed any criticism at any individual players. It's...

:D Morning, Port. I see by the time on your last post you were on a bender last night. Hope you're feeling okay. I've "clammed" up because I don't have much to say beyond what I've already said -- at every opportunity I could. Only thing new is that London played poorly in g1, took too man...

Here's what the game sheet looks like for the Corvair$ tonight... no editorializing... just the facts, m'am. Of their total 19 rostered players who are 1995, two will not dress tonight -- D Brown and S Tierney, both of whom are APJs. Of those 1995s dressing (17), eight have significant experience in...

Thanks for highlighting the lfp story, CF. A good read that asks the right questions. Bullard answered his well. I have no doubt that he's a great coach and it's clear he is getting the most from his players. I also hope he's right and that some of his boys make the jump to CIS hockey next year. He ...

Re: SUTHERLAND CUP FINAL: Caledonia(1st, GHL) vs London(2nd, West) Predictions & Playoff Thread

The Nationals GM is quoted in the lfpress story at http://www.lfpress.com/2016/04/25/nationals-up-for-fast-finish making it crystal clear the reason for the three-games-in-three nights schedule: London has several players who are in the midst of university finals, so they had to work out the timing ...

Port, your response to the good Captain is on the money. Port, you asked: "How many 20 year olds were on the Sutherland Cup winning teams between 1998-2012???"

I don't know. Why don't you go do the research and let us all know. My bet is none had as many and none had anywhere near as many OHLers as the Mighty 2016 Corvair$.

Re: SUTHERLAND CUP FINAL: Caledonia(1st, GHL) vs London(2nd, West) Predictions & Playoff Thread

Regardless of who wins, history will be made. If the highly favoured Corvair$ meet expectations, they will be the first team ever to win 3 consecutive Sutherland Cups and the last team to win the GO title with a roster comprised overwhelmingly of 20-year-olds and former OHL overagers -- thanks to ne...

This series is unfolding as many predicted. Looks a lot like the London-Leamington series -- two evenly matched teams going at it hard. Very entertaining, fun to watch and impossible to predict the outcome... just as it should be. Time for the Nats to steal the game they need to bring home from Allm...

jfvoll, you speak my language. If you want to call it a kick in the arse, fine. Yes, that is precisely what I'm saying should happen to CHL over-agers. Move on. RG, we all know that the real Sutherland Cup champions will be crowned when Stratford and London sort themselves out. Gonna be a great series between two evenly matched, well managed, well coached teams who made their way into the final four through the front door and without the stink of controversy.

Re: Breaking the rules set by the OHA(In Response to 'Stats Primer')

Cali, I'm not advocating to end anyone's career "early" and I don't think 20-year-olds, or ex-CHLers, are "terrible." What I'm opposed to is having so many of them occupying roster spots, particularly on one team, at the expense of younger players getting the opportunity and at t...

I want to correct Cali's inference that I or anyone on this forum is advocating to ban 20-year-olds from the GO, and the suggestion that I or anyone views them as "horrible creatures" is frankly hilarious. Never said it, never thunk it, and know there is no support for it. I personally kno...

Re: Stats primer for the 2016 Sutherland Cup* (aka, The Asterisk Series)

No one has a problem with your son, Mrs Ratchford. The problem is how many 20 yr olds your son's team has, and, more importantly, how many of them have played most of their career in the OHL. It's not complicated to understand. Why do you think the OHL limits the number of 20 year olds a team can ca...

Re: Stats primer for the 2016 Sutherland Cup* (aka, The Asterisk Series)

Cali, it's a matter of degree and horrific optics. The league is trying to mitigate the problem which is why they introduced the new rule to limit the # of 20 yr olds and place some restrictions/disincentives on loading up with CHLers in what is what is a Jr. B development league (thus the league's ...

Yeah, you're right again, Port. Pawley couldn't buy a point in the O. Except for the 70 he scored over two seasons with the Frontenacs. And Bauman was a lame duck when he was in the O. Except for being a top-4 d-man with Guleph when they played for and narrowly missed winning the Memorial Cup in 201...

Re: Sutherland Cup Format

Something along those lines, Port, makes sense. Not all teams should make the post-season. Never been a fan of wild cards. As soon as you need to get a calculator out to determine who's in and who's out, you run into problems and controversy.
